The Mayans were a Group of Mesoamerican Indians who between 250 and 900 AD developed one of the greatest civilizations. By AD 200 they had developed cities containing palaces, temples, plazas, and ball courts. They used stone tools to quarry the immense quantities of stone needed for those structures; their sculpture and relief carving were also highly developed. They had two big wells, one was for drinking and gardening, and one was where they believed that their god, Yum-Chac lived. They believed that when their crops would start to wither and no rain would fall, Yum-Chac was angry. They would sacrifice a 14-year-old maiden to be his bride and a warrior, who was meant to escort the maiden and join her in the rain god's court. They would throw them down into the well that was about a 60-foot fall.
