Background
There is a debate on whether the fall of Rome was actually a fall. There isn’t one cause to the fall of Rome, but many different conflicts. There were a few different powers that fought against Rome to bring them down. When Rome was Christianized, the Emperor stopped being viewed as a god, and lost a lot of power. There was a big conflict with the political side of things as well. They didn’t choose a new emperor, and instead chose people for different positions of power for profit. They lost their intake of gold, but continued to spend lots of money on things like their yearly games, causing them to decrease the value of money. Rome was also getting too big, and it was hard to keep control of all of its territories. They split into two empires, eastern and western, with two separate emperors. They slowly drifted further apart and were unable to work together, so they were unable to battle outside forces adequately. One of the biggest hits on Rome was attacks from barbarians. They were greatly weakened because of outside forces, which had a big impact on their fallout.

Feudalism
With the fall of Rome, the feudal system began. The feudal system joins separate states and puts it under one political system. The peasants, the knights, the nobles, and at the top of the pyramid is the king. Everyone had to depend on each social class. The king needed the nobles by his side, to give more power and make decisions. The king and nobles needed the knights to protect them, the king, nobles, and the knights needed the peasants to farm and provide food and servants. In return for farming, they got protection from outside threats.

Why we should know about this
It’s important to learn about our history, especially ones that really impacted and shaped our world today. The fall of Rome made way for many parts of Europe, as well as components of how our government functions. After the fall of Rome, the feudal system took place. Though the feudal system might not be in place anymore, there are still parts of it that are. We don’t refer to people as kings, nobles, knights, and peasants. There are presidents (king), presidents board (nobles), the army (knights) and then there are the rest of us (peasants). It is important to know how our world functions, and how we have developed from our past, as well as how to avoid making the same mistake twice.
