The Rosetta Stone was a very important key for the scholars when deciphering the hieroglyphs. Because the stone contained text from Greek, Coptic, and Hieroglyphs, the scholars were able to use their knowledge of Coptic and Greek texts to decipher Hieroglyphic text. In 1822 Champollion once again decoded the Hieroglyphs eight centuries after Arabian scholars had decoded it. It was when he realized that rather than looking at the text as symbols and images of things and objects, you need to read it as a phonetic script, Champollion made his breakthrough in decoding the Hieroglyphs.
